Why Teach Mathematics?

Mathematics is a wonderful, intriguing subject which underpins many aspects of life.  Without numbers how would the world function? Mathematics is essential to allow designs to develop, to model weather systems, to predict future events and the list goes on and on. It is the only universal language. It is part of our history and part of our future. The importance and value of Mathematics can be underestimated, but for those who have an understanding, appreciate the significance of this wonderful subject and the joy it can bring.

Why SCITT?

The SCITT course provides an ideal opportunity for graduates to experience the rewards of being a teacher first hand with emphasis placed on classroom practice. Experience will be gained in two schools teaching students at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. You will be given the opportunity to observe experienced teachers apply their skills and then encouraged to develop your teaching style in a supportive environment. All trainees are assigned a School Base Tutor who will offer support and advice

Who should apply?

If you have a passion for Mathematics and enjoy working with children then this is the course for you. Applicants will ideally have a degree in Mathematics but this is not essential. A degree which has a proportion of mathematics will also be welcomed. Students should also possess an enthusiasm for the subject and have a desire to teach and inspire students to enjoy and learn mathematics. Creativity and passion are also traits which will allow you to develop this subject and promote enthusiasm in students.
